Severe Weather Likely Across the Southern Plains Later This Week

April 30, 2018 0 Comments

While the weather may be quiet here in the Heart of Illinois, the ingredients are coming together for an active week of severe weather in the central and southern plains. The Storm Prediction Center has already placed portions of Kansas & Missouri in an Enhanced (3 out of 5) area for severe weather for Tuesday.

The threat then moves further south into Oklahoma and North Texas as we head into Wednesday.

Tornadoes, large hail, and damaging straight-line winds will be all be possible each day. This is especially true in the Enhanced areas with the greatest threat for widespread thunderstorms. You see we have a complex storm system that will be the trigger for several rounds of showers and storms over the week. So while things may be calm here today, things are going to get messy in other parts of the country later this week.

Here in the Heart of Illinois, we will only see some heavy rain from these as we head into Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday Night, we could see some stronger storms move into the area with some of the stronger storms producing some gusty winds. By the time everything is said and done, we could see between 1 to 2 inches of rainfall across the area.
