Monday August 6, we are in a Slight risk for severe weather. A cold front supported by a Chain of Lows will be slowly making it’s way into northwest Illinois today and continue to push southeast through the late afternoon hours. Since the front is supported by the chain, it is a slow moving system that will continue to push through Illinois through Tuesday.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon, and some could be strong to severe as CAPE values push 2,000-4,000 J/KG. Wind shear is continuing to increase, and is expected to be at 30-40 knots by the late afternoon hours into the evening. Damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall is anticipated with the slight possibility of an isolated tornado.
