From Hot & Humid Conditions to Drenching Rains

It sure has been a hot start to our work week with temps in the 90s and heat index values in the triple digits. All the humidity in the atmosphere is creating a lot of moisture for storms to tap into as we go further into the work week. Right now, we are seeing a frontal boundary off to our north in Northern Illinois that caused major flash flooding in the Rockford area Monday.

As we go into the evening hours of Tuesday, we’ll see that boundary move south and stick around central Illinois for the remainder of the work week. This will serve as the focus of several rounds of showers & storms over the next few days.

We’ll see the boundary then lift North as a warm front bringing in even more moisture as a strong low-pressure system sets up in the central plains on Thursday. This will bring several more rounds of heavy rain to the region on Thursday and Friday. With all the moisture in the air and dewpoints in the 70s, this system has a lot of moisture to tap into. By the time everything is said and done, we could see some 3-4 inches of rain with a few isolated areas seeing upwards of 5 inches of rain. Flooding could be an issue since we are seeing so much rain in a short period of time.
